Product Description

Set two years after the events of Final Fantasy VII, Cloud now leads a solitary life traveling the Planet as a transporter. The office of Strife Delivery Service is located in 7th Heaven, which also functions as an orphanage for children stricken with Geostigma.

Three new enemies make an appearance in Advent Children. Kadaj, their leader, is in his teens, while Yazoo and Loz are known to be in their twenties. In them, Cloud sees shadows of FFVII's fallen hero, Sephiroth. The three are after "Mother" and refer to Cloud as their "Brother". Having obtained Jenova's head, their purpose appears to be to start another Reunion. Vincent suspects that with Jenova’s cells, they may even be able to create another Sephiroth.

A non-contagious disease known as Geostigma is spreading across the Planet, with Kadaj claiming that it is due to Jenova's cells working hard in the Lifestream. Children tend to show signs of Geostigma first, though adults are susceptible to the disease as well. Symptoms of Geostigma include mental weakness, pain and even death. Cloud is known to suffer from this disease though he hides his affected arm beneath his sleeve. He is heard coughing and clutching his arm in some parts of the trailers. Victims bandage affected regions and it was Cloud's used bandage, which Marlene found in the Church, that gave away his condition.

Loving it :-)

Had seen the first FF movie many years ago & had enjoyed it & introduced my son to it. He in turn has since brought this movie & watches it often. I half watched it the first time & have to say I'm hooked, have become a big fan of Cloud, his broody character, that belies the life he has led to date & how he deals with it all.. if he was real he'd be very attractive to many women & I'd be one of them!! Have since ordered my own Limited Edition copy to enjoy. Sadly I'm not a fan of games or gaming, so will just enjoy the movie & hear more about the games from my son, no doubt! :-)

As another review stated, it can become addictive!!

man this is the grandaddy of all Animation, its nothing I've ever thought was possible, the graphics are amazing the music it brillient and Cloud's sword is massive. I havn't played the game before so trying to understand the storyline was differcult at times. But probably up there in the top 10 anime for sure

Incredible

Gorgeous graphics, but the storyline is incredibly hard to follow sometimes. Some of the fight scenes were a little too quick - hard to keep up with everything that was happening, but plenty of awesome slo-mo shots to keep everyone happy.

My non-FF-playing family/friends don't like it so much cos the action is wildly un-realistic (gravity defying leaps and Cloud's enormous sword) - but if you played the game, you'll love the movie.

Seriously addictive movie.

If you have a superb knowledge of the game, then you can totally connect with all the basic elements of the Final Fantasy series, or in this case VII- the characters and their skills, summons, locations, enemies, e.t.c.
If not, just go with it and enjoy the action!!
From that familiar scene at the beginning (come on, you must know!- its the absolute end scene of the game itself;D), to the fight scenes, to the awesome graphics, to the summons, to the characters, to the inevitable comeback of you-know-who, this game is a MUST 'for (all) those who find friendly company therein... this reunion is for you'

Simply amazing

Just... wow.

The CGI is incredible - screenshots do NOT do this movie justice - the music is superb, and we get to see all our fave chars from FFVII again...

It focuses on Cloud Strife, the main character from FFVII, and finished off his story nicely. Sure, the dialogue is a little cheesy in places (I only take real exception to one line in the movie which had me pounding my fist on the ground, moaning 'why...why...'), but for the most part it's great. The CGI is breathtaking - you forget you're watching an animated movie. Everything moves perfectly, nothing jars...

As someone who has played and knows well the story and characters of the original PS1 game Final Fantasy VII, I understood most of this movie fairly well (though the plot still needs a few watchings to understand... but hey, a good excuse to watch this gorgeous movie again) but if you have never played the game, you'll find it tough. It gives a brief background but I watched this movie with a friend and at the end, she turned to me, and asked, "So who was that scary one with the long sword? What did he want with... um... Cloud, is that right? That's his name, isn't it? Yeah. And what's up with him and Tifa? And who were all those random people fighting that giant thing? I don't get it."

But she did admit that the whole thing was watchable because of the CGI alone. Which leads me to say that I recommend this movie for anyone... especially the fans of FFVII. Don't even think about the catastrophy that was Spirits Within. You... will... enjoy... this... movie!!

*is speechless*

When I first bought the DVD, I didnt know what to expect. Prior to watching it, FF7 wasnt my favourite game in the series, mainly because the ending was left completely open. So, anyway I watched the film, and instead of just turning off the DVD player...I went back and watched it again...and then again...and again. Seriously this film is quality. Ok, the stories a bit dodgy, and yes some of the dialogue is cheesy, but its light years ahead of most of the other action films with dealt with over the last few years. At the end of the day, it was impossible to cram a true Final Fantasy story into 101 minutes, so you just have to accept it for what it is - a reunion of the Final Fantasy 7 team, with about 5 brilliant action sequences and a 100 minute excuse to have Cloud fight Sephiroth again. Buy it now!

Advent Children is an excellent film. It follows the hugely successful game, FF7, so it had a lot to live up to. This movie rocks - a bit hard to follow, my fellow watchers thought -- but they had not played much of the game before hand. I am very glad that I pre-ordered this movie because it is so damn cool. Amazing graphics and a definate overall rating of 5/5.

Watch it and be amazed!

When Final Fantasy 7 hit stores it was an instant classic with a great cast of characters and an incredible storyline that has left players begging for more. This sequal to the maga blockbuster was always going to be met with great anticipation. The good news is that Advent Children does not dissapoint.

The basic storyline is summerized in the film so if you've forgotten what the game was about it should give you a refresher. All your favourite cherecters return, making it feel like a reunion of old freinds.

The CGI is polished and well presented. Fast and complex action scenes so intense you will be on the edge of your seat - and I do mean that!

So even you've never even played the game this film is worth your money.

I prefer the Japanese version

This movie is awsome, and is a must see for anyone who even played the original game. The CGI even makes the giant monkey from the new King kong film look primitive (mind the pun).

After watching the "making of" extra, you'll realise how much effort the voice actors of the japanese version put into making the characters sound believable, but when i watched the movie in english, i hung my head in shame. They totally stereotyped all the characters with corny accents, and some of the new dialog killed the meaning of what they were saying.

I truly reccomend purchasing this DVD, as a collectors item and as a great film, but watch it in japanese with subtitles. It is much more enjoyable.

I haven't played Final Fantasy 7
Reviewed by Daniel from New Zealand. on May 28th, 2006
I have played other Final Fantasy games (FFI,FFX,FFVIII,FXI) but I haven't played seven, although after seeing this movie I'm going to buy it. I did know a little bit about the story line of the original game from what I heard from friends, so that did make a difference to my enjoyment of the film.

Some say that this film is over hyped - most of the hype has come from fans of the game, or at least people who have played other games in the series. And they're hyped for a reason, because they love Final Fantasy. If you haven't played the game, you might still enjoy the movie, but don't say the movie's bad if you don't enjoy it. That's just like buying a romance movie when you like action movies. Don't expect it to be like all the mainstream hollywood junk.

The story is a bit confusing if you have not played the game, and most of the movie (around 80%) is battles so it does leave little room for the story - but I think Square pulled it off well.

In the special features documentary the designers say they chose not to make this movie photo realistic because then it wouldn't be like Final Fantasy 7, and they might as well use live actors. And they chose to do CG because then they could do things that had never been done before (thats what FF is about) and have cameras in impossible places and have characters do insane things.

Nobuo Uematsu is the king of game music, and his work on this movie meets the same standard. I feel this is one of the best movie soundtracks ever, and I plan to buy the CD.

This movie looks cool, sounds great, it is Final Fantasy! (not like silly Spirits Within).

Alright.

It's been over two years since I began having an affair with the potential of movie action scenes. The Matrix, Spiderman, all rubbish. Crouching tiger came close, but THIS is the only film that knew what it was doing, and is the first movie to score on what every other film failed to do (not to say every othe movie sucks though). For that, I give it a 5 star, regardless of the excruciatingly cheesy dialogue and slightly dented plot. Action scenes were like the lost art of the worlds film industry until now, and this movie is like what awakened that lost art just so that people like me could feel a little more fulfilled :P.

One of the problems I had with the action were the consistant close ups. Though they barely hinder the potential intensity of the fights, I would have gone for just the medium shots that show both character's forms, then you can incorperate a lot more fast paced spinning, flipping and general kicking butt, and works like magic. The other specific problem is more of a MV maker issue-the use of the AC One Winged angel song, had I been coreographing it, I definately would have changed a few things, but all in all it was still the best damn sword fight in the history of film making, full stop.

This movie is not something you rent.

Good but not Great

As everyone else has said, The animation is awesome. The story is however lacking. It's a good movie but certainly not a great movie. There's plenty of room for improvement here and the story / movie certainly could have been a lot better. Also some of the music seems like it was added just so it could be part of the movie, when it really didn't fit with the scene at all. Certainly much better than the original Final Fantasy movie but this could have been great if they'd make it 2-3 hrs and followed a story through and immerse you with the characters. Your thrown into a story with flash backs here and there, don't get to know much about the characters apart from Cloud and then it's over before you know it.

Wicked!!!

After seeing FF VII Advent Children I was very disappointed. There is far too much going on to actually follow a storyline. The rolling of the camera most the time is enough alone to make you nauseous, you hardly have enough time to realise what is going on in a shot before it cuts to another, and another. There is hardly any character development as they have tried to fit far too many characters into the movie, and even with the english dialogue, you're left most the time wondering who is talking or what's going on (thanks to the endless cuts and odd angles). At least in the game you can take your time to read a character's dialogue before you press 'X'

Good movie.

The first Final Fantasy Movie, THe Sprits Within, was terible. And i evpected the same from this. And i couldnt have been more wrong.

THe plot is wonderfull, and the graphics rule. But where this movie truly shines is the fight scenes. If you take all three matrix movies, every Jakie chan movie, and condence all the figthing scenes, you have something about a 1/3 of this movie. THe fightscenes are the best. Ever.

I saw this film about six months ago and I was totally blown away.

Firstly let me say this. If you are unfamiliar with the game you will have major issues with understanding the story line fully, however you need not understand it completely to enjoy this film.

Advent children covers the events 2 years after the end of the game and see's our heroes, albeit briefly, team back up to take on a new threat. The story mainly revolves around Cloud, Tifa and Vincent but all the playable characters and most of the non-playable characters make an appearance.

This film has some big surprises for fans of the game and a few moments so emotionally evoking that they will even bring a tear to your eye.

The animation quality is second to none. Everytime you think Square-Enix has reached the limit of realism with their movies they come back with something even better. CG movie makers need to watch this film and take notes.

Simply amazing. Buy it.

I so far have only seen the Japanese version which is a bit hard to understand...especially the opening scene at the last site of Sephiroth in the crater.
However it does help if you have played the game as all the cameos, tinkles and general thread bare story will make a lot more sense.

The CGI is typical of the Final Fantasy genre...groundbreaking. The detail is so incredible you forget to watch the sub titles. Hopefully the english version makes a bit more sense, but this movie seems really only a tribute to the game instead of a stand alone oscar winner...However it HAS made me buy the Advent Children figures which are just as amazing in sculpt as FFVII AC is in graphical quality

Ive seen this movie in Japanese with english subtitles but it still was a really good movie. The fight scenes are absoloutly awesome and while battling Bahamut SIN, all the former final fantasy 7 heros come back to fight it. The final Battle is excellent, Cloud vs Sephiroth is definately one of the best battles on the movie.
It also helps to have played the game before (ive never played it but after seeing that i want to play it.)
I think it will be even better in english.

As a fan of FF7, i was hoping for a movie that doesn't barstardise the game too much. Advent does a relatively good job at this, with cliches and scenes just straight from the game. However, this is what partly draws me to the movie, as i would love to see an updated version of the FF7 world.

The story line makes little sense when translated to sub titles and ends being a bit frustrating. Hopefully they can pull a 'cowboy bebop' and dub the jap dialogue over with english that actually is engageing and develops the story more. A direct translation would kill the english version of this film.

Awesome Visuals. I can't say it enough.

Overall, Jap version is only worth the action scenes. Hopefully english verison dialouge is improved.

Over a million copies sold in Jp

An all-time top 5 movie sales rank in Japan; over a million copies sold!
The action scenes in this movie are way off the limit! A million times more engaging than "The Matrix" action sequences!
Although there is not much plot to the overall movie, the action scenes make up for it.
The 8 (including Vincent and Yuffie) original characters are redesigned with realistic CG rendering, whilst maintaining the same characteristics of the original game.
According to Square-Enix, the movie creators and producers, motion capture was used in most character movements; however, the battle scenes were done by direct computer animation, in order to create scenes impossible to exist in reality: "There's no point in making a CG movie if its just te same as reality" says Tetsuya Nomura, director of the "advent Children" production.
Tension is built throughout the whole movie, using fast-paced battle scenes, causing the viewer to be continually engaged. The background music is excellent as usual.
Nobuo Uematsu (The head director of music) combines Rock, Opera and Classical music to create an engaging melody, which fits well with the mood and atmosphere of the scenes in the movie.
Overall, this movie deserves an 8/10 for excellence in music, battle scenes and engagement. The only negative is the plot - nevertheless, it is still very much worth watching...a must-see!

Looks good, but the story lacks.

Like many Final Fantasy fans, I was excited by the prospect of seeing an animated follow up to the hugely successful Final Fantasy 7. There's been alot of hype about this movie, and on the animation side of things it doesn't disappoint. The CGI is freaking brilliant, the fight scenes drool-inducing, and the character design spot on (yes, even the rather goth looking Sephiroth!).

Sadly, the story - or rather lack of one - is the let down. Although the plot sounds great, it isn't really developed alot and I ended up feeling as though I had watched a montage of fight scenes put together with some awesome background music. I would have liked a little more substance. Fans of the game will have some understanding of what's going on, but if you're a newcomer to the Final Fantasy franchise I'd say you'd need to play the game to fully appreciate this movie.

Not bad, but definitely one for the fans.

I first played Final Fantasy VII when I was 15/16. The game blew my mind in every way possible. I loved it! I worshipped it! I've played it evey year since then! Then I heard this movie was coming out and I went weak at the knees. Cloud?... my Cloud in a movie? I have to see this!! AND I DID!
Where to begin?? The CGI is just amazing! Seeing these characters that you've become so accustomed to on the screen... NOT looking blocky or plain. I cried when I saw all of them.. but lets just keep that between us!
The action in this movie amazing. Quick fight scenes and a 3 on 1 fight scene that was so fast and intense it had me on the edge of my seat.
The core of this movie is what got to me the most. Forgivness, friendships, letting go, all that stuff... i had a tear or two at the end also which i loved.
I can't say too much without giving anything away, so I'll just say this. Buy this Movie! It should be seen by everyone who has played the game and loved it as much as I did. If you havn't played it watch it anyway! You'll laugh.. cry... scream... rewind and watch again!

[Editor's note: Text refers to the Japanese Version] Well Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has finally been released in japan, and I can tell you, this was worth the very very long wait.

Long time fans of FFVII will be jumping for joy when they see this. If you haven't played FFVII in a while, no biggie. Your given a refresher course at the begin of the movie, bring you up to speed on everything that has happened. This is also useful for those who havent played FFVII, but even so i still found myself having to explain a few things to my Final Fantasy illiterate boy friend.

The graphics in this movie were breathtaking. Thats all I can say. They were just simply amazing.

And for those of you who have played FFVII, you will regonise many of the soundtracks used, most taken straight from FFVII, with a bit of a change from, of course, Nobou. If I am ever fortunate enough to meet him in person. I will have to thank him for all the good music he has brought into this world.

When this is realeased here. I will be buying it. Without a doubt. I shall own it. And to anyone who has ever played FFVII, so should you. To anyone who hasn't been fortunate enought to play FFVII, go out and get it, play it, and then get this movie.

You will not be dissapointed.

They have spent 2 years making and I have to say-its above my expectation. The characters from old final fantasy VII comes back and the action scene is beyond comprehension-and it takes over 50% portion of the movie!
