Product Description
Painkiller is a first-person horror shooter, designed to satisfy the gamer's hunger for intense, fast-paced action. You are Painkiller, a mercenary for hire, charged with cleaning out nests of the undead. But an unholy pact with a demon unknowingly puts you square in the middle of a fight for control of the underworld... with the future of humanity hanging in the balance.
Features:
Intense gameplay: The player will be constantly outnumbered, fighting against seemingly insurmountable odds.
Next-generation graphics: The game uses a proprietary 3D engine capable of pumping out 100X the polygons of some of the latest shooters, while adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing techniques.
Lasting replay value: Painkiller features a standard single player campaign, with additional modes to encourage replay. The game also features full multiplayer support.
Combo weapons: All weapons come in pairs, with a primary and secondary fire.
Morphing: Your unholy pact gives you the power to morph into a powerful possessed creature with every 100 souls collected.
Monster AI: Advanced AI coding will simulate group behaviours. Monsters don't spawn onto the map, they patrol. They are constantly aware of the player, and will coordinate their attacks by retreating, regrouping and counterattacking.
Physics Engine: Painkiller employs the Havok physics engine, allowing for inverse kinematics ("rag-doll physics") and deformable, interactive environments

This is a great game. Pure mindless fun imo. Its nice to have a game where you just shoot the oncoming assault of enemies without needing to find keys etc. If you like games like Quake and Doom but felt those needed a graphical makeover...then this is the game for you. Checkpoints appear to let you know where to go as well which is nice. Theres also the ability to change into a demon when you collect enough souls and it makes you see enemies as if you were Predator and using his vision. All in a ll for the price....this is a great game with mindless gameplay and great graphics. Sound is pretty good as well.
Stakingly good fun

Why compare games?
This is an awesome game, and I enjoy the mindless fun (slight pun intended). It is a great game, it makes me think of an rpg game in fps mode. It's graphically stunning, and has the atmosphere without going overboard.
Compare it to doom, unreal. whatever. but it's different. It's cool to be different, if this is different.
It may have taken 3years for me to get around to playing this game, but i'm glad I waited. There's so much dribble in games today that it's nice to be able to just enjoy a game once in a while.
Dull, dull, dull, dull

Basically Doom 1, only better-looking and with less puzzle-solving. Prepare to disengage your brain. Compared to this, Unreal Tournament -- or even Doom -- is a masterpiece of intellectual finesse, sophistication, and subtlety.
This baby lasted a whole day on my hard drive, but that's only because I wanted to give it a second chance in the morning.
Incredible

This game is amazing. Very very nice graphics. Same physics engine as halflife etc.
No fagging about in this game, all on action, Amazing environments.
Rivals Doom3 in graphics, but better. Huge open environments. Its what Doom 3 should have been(to remain faithfull to Doom 2 theme).
Excellent game!!!

Fans of the original Quake are in for a treat. The Havok game engine is smooth and fast without having a $1000 video card to perform.
Get this game if you like mindless, fast paced fragging!
Definitely better than Doom 3!

I totally agree. Painkiller was the Doom 3 that Doom 3 should have been. And yes I agree about the graphics too - truly beautiful. Doom 3's graphics ranged from truly staggering to lo-res grey walls, Painkiller's are smoother and more detailed walls and stone textures and huge outdoor environments and the most insane physics you'll ever see and the most fun you'll ever have, and runs at a lightning fast framerate on the highest resolution. One of the best games of the year.
better than doom 3
