Product Description

It’s been a generation since you vanquished the evil that plagued the Land of Ehb, and now…a new menace has awakened. In Dungeon Siege II, the sequel to the best-selling RPG from Gas Powered Games, you will be called on to again wield sword and spell to save the world from a growing abomination many years in the making.

A thousand years ago, the crusaders of Azunai crossed swords with the legions of Zaramoth in the final battle of a century-long rebellion. As the tyrannical god Zaramoth struck the final blow through Azunai’s trembling shield, the earth shook. In that moment, the forces of magic were unchained, and both armies were consumed in a brilliant cataclysm that stretched for leagues across the Plain of Tears. Only a scarred wasteland remained as final testament to the First Age of Man.

And for a millennium, magic has continued to spread to the farthest corners of the world, freely flowing to any who would command it. But the tide of magic has begun to wane, heeding instead the call of an ancient legacy. From the Plain of Tears a new heir beckons, and with each day his strength grows - consuming all those who submit, eradicating those foolish enough to resist. With none to oppose his ascendance, the circle will be complete, and an ancient age will begin anew.

What fate will befall the Second Age of Man? The time for judgment is nigh.

  • Elite Battle Party. Players must choose battle comrades carefully to build a party of up to six members. Parties can be honed over time using an all-new character development system filled with new skills and specialties.

  • Hero Powers. As the stakes have increased, so have the party's abilities. Each class now has access to unique Heroic Powers that are capable of turning the tide of battle, but they require wisdom and strategic timing to use properly.
  • Powerful and unusual allies. The packmule was only the beginning. Players can now choose from a number of exotic creatures with special abilities that adventure and grow alongside players.
  • More Dangerous Enemies. Players will face-off against opponents whose power and tactical prowess will rival their own. The enemies in Dungeon Siege II will have all-new powers and abilities. As a result of the new Coach AI technology introduced in Dungeon Siege II, enemies are full of surprises.
  • Interactive World. The world of Dungeon Siege II is brimming with activity. From pitched battles raging around players as they adventure through the world, to special environments that players can turn to their tactical advantage in the heat of battle – players will do well to pay heed to the world around them.
  • Jaw-dropping special effects. The new SFX engine in Dungeon Siege II takes visual special effects to the next level for everything from the environmental atmosphere to dazzling spell effects, creating an engrossing and immersive gaming experience.
  • Cinematic storytelling. Dungeon Siege II introduces a new Flick authoring system providing a new level of in-engine cinematic storytelling that keeps players in the game world instead of pulling them away from it. New story-driven quests provide a deeper adventure that evolves with players as they complete quests and missions. In addition, the dynamic world of Dungeon Siege II changes around players in real-time in response to their combat and quests.

Very good but with some problems

    Pros:
That it exists at all and it's a single player game and not another MMORPG.

The look and feel, the ambiance, which is excellent.

The mystifying array of weapons and armour to choose from and customise your appearence with.

The plethora of monsters from giant bugs to undead warriors to weird, pigmy tribal guys. The modeling and animation is excellent.

    Long, good value for money.

    Cons:
A little too hack n slash for my taste. Not enough settlements (there are three), and they don't seem to be fleshed out very well. I'd prefer a couple of larger towns to explore with more characters and sub quests (there are 41).

The combat's way too easy. Initially only the EASY setting is available. MEDIUM becomes available once you've played through, and DIFFICULT when you've played through again. EASY is too easy to present much of a challenge, so combat just becomes a bore. And you can't die! When a character "dies" they are really just unconscious and will wake up in a minute or two. If all the party dies you're teleported to town ready to go back to where you left off. Even the bosses are hoplessly weak. You just stand there slashing at them, quaffing a health potion now and again until they go down.

When you load a game you start not where you saved but back at town and all the monsters have respawned. You don't have multiple slots to save your games in.

    Respawn in general.

Finally, a pet peev of mine, not being able to turn the green rings under your character's feet off.

But besides the flaws I am really glad I bought it, and didn't want it to end. I really hope there's an expansion soon.

Note: There are a couple of good mods to fix the difficulty and remove the green rings :)

    Siege the day!

DSII takes all the great elements of DS (and Legends of Aranna) that made it such a classic game and streamlines them into a very slick package indeed.

Improvements abound with character development. Choose your own skills - as a ranger there are several options you can take depending on wether you want to specialize with the bow/crossbow or thrown weapons. Very well thought out!

Gameplay, although similar to DS, has had a bit of an overhaul and the result is a much smoother experience. Besides the main quest, there are a broad range of interesting sub-quests that will see you journeying the length and breadth of the country to accomplish. And it's worth exploring any little nook and cranny you come across - not only for the rewards but for the sheer pleasure of the range of diverse locations.

Don't underestimate the power of your pets! I got through most of the game with just myself (combat mage) and 3 pets - and I can tell you that they can help you survive some very, very sticky situations. The attention to gameplay is evident here as well because your pets receive bonuses depending on what you feed them. Love it!

Weapons, armour, spells, etc are brilliant and keep you playing and playing in order to upskill your characters so you can make use of higher level stuff. And you can enchant certain items too.

There's stacks more I can go on about - the replayablility factor for example is quite high - but stop reading this review, buy the game, and see for yourself. As for me, I'm off again ( as a ranger this time ) with my more traditional party of a fighter and a nature mage to kick some ass......er, no, I didn't mean you Pookie (my mule).

    Highly recommended!!!

DS II is definitely what a "version 2" should be. The basic gameplay is the same as the original, but the engine, graphics and plot have been improved out of sight! The graphics are awesome. The AI is smart (but not omnipotent). The plot is interesting. Some game-sites have reviewed this as "good-but-not-great" due to the similarity with the original, but I say that is a bonus. If you've played DS I, then you won't need a tutorial to play DS II. Well done GPG!

A great evolution from the first

If you loved the first Dungeon Siege you're almost guaranted to like the second.

It's not a completly new game but an evolution, it builds on what made the first game good as well as adding in some new features like evolving the control you have over pets, enchantable items and more.

I give it a 5/5 not because it's necessarily the best game ever, but because it acomplishes what it was supposed to, build on the first game and to keep you playing it from begining to end.

    Really great playing!

This game is a great RPG. Many of the elements of this game are similar to its predecessor but they have all been streamlined and updated. There are many neat new aspects to the game aswell, many are purely optional but allow for a great replayability score. Great for both single and LAN games, hours of fun. I totally recommend this game - trust me on this one.

Graphics - 8.5/10 (Not heavily improved from DS-1 Legends of Aranna, but still great and not too resource instensive - plays great with moderate video cards)

Gameplay - 9.5/10 (More customisation than you could throw a stick at, but still fluid; great and engorssing storyline)

Lifetime - 8.5/10 (Enough to keep you coming back multiple times)

    Enjoy,
    J
