Product Description

Created and developed by Naughty Dog, Jak 3 is the team's follow-up to their best-selling title, Jak II TM and their Greatest Hits PlayStation2 debut title, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. Together, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy and Jak II have sold more than 2.5 million units worldwide, both playing a part in revolutionizing the action platform genre. Combining a variety of genres including driving, adventure, action-platform, puzzles, strategy and exploration, Jak 3 promises to deliver one of the most entertaining and interactive experiences to gamers this holiday season!

In Jak 3, nothing is the same. The story begins with Jak's banishment to the Wasteland, a desert environment five times the size of Haven City, with multiple areas including mines and a volcano. Given the enormity and variance in terrain, vehicles play a large role as off-road transportation is introduced, fueled by a true-to-life physics engine. An action-adventure game featuring story-based missions that integrate a dynamic plot with gameplay, the city's new look is just the first surprise in Jak 3 as the game unveils more guns, vehicles, additional dark powers and the introduction of light powers. Players will also find a cast of both new and familiar characters that will slowly be revealed as Jak and Daxter begin another adventure that will leave them fighting for their lives.

STORYLINE:
One year has passed since Jak and Daxter saved Haven City from Kor and the attacking Metal Heads, yet Haven City is still immersed in deadly chaos as three groups fight for control of the streets. The people of Haven City have grown to distrust Jak's dark powers, and as rumors boil of Jak's ties with Krew and Kor, the city blames Jak for its current woeful circumstances. When the palace is destroyed by a surprise Metal Head attack, even Ashelin cannot protect Jak as the High Council's power broker, Count Veger, forces Jak into banishment for life to the desolate Wasteland. Upon Jak being flown to the harsh island and dropped off to fend for himself, he discovers that Daxter and Pecker have discreetly followed him to his proclaimed lifetime of hell. With Daxter and Pecker bravely by his side, the three begin their next adventure as they wander the Wasteland and along the way encounter perilous situations, violent battles and devastating consequences.

The worst game ive ever played cant get much worse than that

    Improved but not better

Let me just say this. The beginning to this game is ultimate. There is no way it could have been better. There's now two cities and a huge desert. It is about four (my estimate) times bigger than haven city. And what's more, the sand actually acts like sand. If drive sideways along a dune, you'll find yourself slipping.

When you get called back to Haven City, it is amazing. Everything has changed. One section is only rubble, one section has been consumed by the Metal Heads and one section has been done over entirely. Everywhere you go you will see Blue Guards battling Red Robots battling Metal Heads. Tor gives you a whole bunch of quests to help your side win.

However, the rest of the game was not to the same standard. Nothing was really developed as much as Jak II. The new characters only appear briefly as well as the old. The end approaches way too fast and the replay value is a lot less than the previous title.

Last thing. I think the creators could learn a lot from Ratchet and Clank. Not graphics or story wise but gameplay. Having no strafing is frustrating.

    Phhh!!!!! Fell asleep halfway!

Wonder why in the world they bothered to make this game!
    Totally unnecesary.

    Great game, good story.

Word of warning if you're a great fan of the series. After the recent television ad campaign you may be forgiven for thinking this is a resolution to the series. As with what the other guy has written, many beleive this is the last Jak game, yet Naughty Dog have confirmed many times that another two games are on the way. They will be a remake of the original for release on the PSP, and a new game for the PS3, tying up the story behind the Legend of Mar (I wont say any more as it will ruin one of the story elements in this game).

This game is however the final chapter in the Precursor trilogy, and for those wanting to find out about the true identity of the precursors, this wont dissapoint. Just expect a few glaring contradictions with the ending of the last game.

Not enough can be said about the graphics of this game. While there is a notable increase in the amount of vertical tearing in the game (put in place to keep the frame rate running smoothly), most of the classic platforming levels run perfectly, and you'll find yourself staring just at the backgrounds themselves.

Its easy to see the production value that has been put into the games cut scenes. These are such a sight to behold, that you will always be eagerly waiting for the next one to come. The character animators at Naughty Dog have outdone themselves again.

The gameplay was what many complained about in Jak 2, with there being a large number of spikes in the difficulty. This is where Naughty Dog spent most of their time working on. The gameplay is pretty much perfect, and you wont find many a game more fun to play than this one.

    Such a Great Game

i dont know what this guy is on about, the ending ties things up nicely for the series, and naughty dog have confirmed that there will never be a sequel to jak 3

    Not quite the resolution

If you've never played the second game in the series, you may be quite lost at the very start of the game, then become comfortable, only to become completely confused again in the middle part of the game. Such is the wealth of character story in this game that you really need to have played the second to appreciate everything.

This however does have one drawback. While Jak 3 is one of the best games of the year, it fails ever so slightly in comparison with Jak 2. While Naughty Dog have tweaked the gameplay to near perfection (there still exists the odd mission that will make you want to pull your hair out) the character development have taken a sharp decline since the last game.

Overall, the story concept is better than Jak 2, but not developed very well. The gameplay is leaps above Jak 2(and more fun), even though the missions sometimes have no real purpose. You'll be wandering around having so much fun but at the same time not really knowing why you're doing what you're doing.

The end result, this is not the conclusion to the story Naughty Dog promised, expect another sequel soon. A bit of a contradiction to the story in Jak 2, but if you're a platforming fan, this is still the best money can buy.
