Product Description
In the distant future, a small group of human exiles have been doomed to fight for survival on the edge of the galaxy. Through military strength, espionage, and deceit, a unified Terran government has maintained an uneasy peace, but as resources and fuel run short the Confederate nations find themselves looking towards the rich worlds of their alien neighbors, the enigmatic Protoss. To further complicate matters, it seems that a previously unknown species-- the Zerg-- have entered Protoss space and are destroying everything in their path. The time for war has come. When you're ready for the ultimate challenge, try taking on up to seven other players in a variety of different game types-- including custom scenarios. Battle.net games will also feature a built-in ladder system, so you can compare your skills to gamers from around the world.

I agree, awesome game. I bought the game in 1998, and also own the expansion pack. I have not finished the game yet. I think it is a little difficult for a RTS beginner (which I was and still am), the final mission for the Terran race is particularly challenging. The good thing though is that the enemy attacks appear to be scripted, so if you persevere you will win through in the end once you understand the strategy and when the attacks are coming.
Back in 1998 this was a 5 star game. Playing it today though I feel the interface is outdated. For example, in Warcraft 3 some units actions can be automated but in Starcraft you have to manually do everything. This can make the game more difficult than it should be.
The game has a great storyline, and of all the games that have been made into movies this is the one that I would actually watch if it were made.
Because of the difficulty and the lack of a printed manual I'm rating this a 4.
Superb

Really brilliant game, far surpasses all others of its genre and continues to be one of my favourites!
