Jack Walters was a highly revered police detective before his encounter with the Mythos changed his life. After his first encounter with the Mythos he was diagnosed with severe amnesia and schizophrenia and was committed to an asylum. Several years later his faculties returned and he was discharged. Fuelled by a burning desire to discover more about the dark secrets of the universe and the mysteries of his own past, he set himself up as a private detective in which he only took cases with a Mythos connection. Play it with the lights off...

A dark atmospheric game which provided some intense chase/escape scenes. Provided me with about 8.5 hours of pure gameplay the first time round (not including reloads etc).
On the PC version you have to change your system date format around from Day/Month/Year to Month/Day/Year or you may not be able to save your game. There's some information on the net about it if you need more details...
Bought this on sale for $35 and worth it!
Absolutely Brilliant!!

I've only played some of this game, and I thought it was great! Definitely not a FPS game, and never has claimed to be so.
The fact that you are only able to save in certain places is not unusual, and adds an extra difficulty to the game, as well as (I find) a sense of accomplishment when you get to a save point.
This game is meant to be scary and be true to Lovecraft's stories - which as a huge fan of his work I believe it does. It's definitely not for your typical 'shoot-em-up' game fan, but more for a gamer who wants to use their brain.
Crushing disappointment

What it has going for it is the story and the horror/Lovecraft theme. It's mainly a stealth, puzzle game. You shouldn't buy it if you want a FPS action game. Although it is first person and there's combat in it, it deals with this aspect rather poorly. The enemy AI seems lacking, and the character animations aren't very good. In addition, enemies respawn and dead enemies fade out as soon as they hit the floor. This makes combat not much fun at all. Although I did quite like the injury and health system. If you take damage you must stop and heal yourself quickly or continue to deteriorate from blood loss.
An array of other niggles detract from enjoyment. For instance there's no quick save. Saves are handled by finding save points throughout the level. Your character moves so infuriatingly slowly, and his annoying voiceover ruins all suspense or spookiness. The insanity effects are just annoying and frustrating, especially when you're being chased by axe wielding maniacs and your vision gets all blurry and your movement slows down to a crawl because your hardened ex police detective is having a panic attack. And finally it's just seriously hard! There are extremely difficult little set pieces that you have to consult a walkthru or simply do over and over again until you figure out how to get through. They leave absolutely no margin for error! You'll be doing a lot of the game over and over again anyway because of the save point system.
It had potential, it's just a shame the devs shot themselves in the foot with so many things.
