Product Description
Blending the best of tactical action games with the best of survival horror titles, "Gears of War" is the first game developed by Epic Games exclusively for Microsoft Game Studios and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system.
In this third-person tactical action/horror game, players live and breathe the role of Marcus Fenix. A disgraced former war hero, Marcus seeks personal redemption as he leads his fire team against an onslaught of merciless warrior fiends. Gamers immerse themselves in an experience so intensely emotional and gut-wrenching that playing will be like controlling a blockbuster action movie.
“Gears of War” utilizes the breathtaking new Unreal Engine 3 to create cinematic, high-definition visuals for a gaming experience that truly ushers in the next generation. Gamers will experience beautifully rendered interactive environments and characters so lifelike they appear to be made of flesh and bone. The next-generation visuals create a world in which the tiniest detail is vivid in the largest battle.
- Engaging and disturbing cinematic story. Massively scoped worlds, memorable characters and an epic story line play out like an intense and unsettling blockbuster action film. Dramatic in-game camera work and a compelling story bring the brutal, emotionally charged experience to life. Gamers control Marcus Fenix and his fire team as they pit advanced human technology against the overwhelming and horrific Locust Horde.
- Fire team co-op action. All game modes, levels and scenarios are designed for cooperative fire team play (AI or human). For the first time, AI teammates are indiscernible from human players. They move intelligently, take orders effectively, and seek cover and defend themselves when necessary. Gamers will experience richer cooperative gameplay than ever, through unique characters that require cooperation to survive.
- Unprecedented visuals in next-generation gaming. “Gears of War” ushers in the next generation with unprecedented visuals. The Unreal Engine 3 technology pushes high-definition visual designs and brings out the smallest details in the largest battle. Gamers will experience a rich dynamic world with an unprecedented level of detail. Characters come to life with unbelievable model quality and a physics-integrated animation system that has them truly reacting intelligently to events as they unfold around them.
- Hyper-realistic and intense combat. In “Gears of War” the battlefield is a lethal place — to foolishly stand out in the open is to die. To survive, gamers can create and take cover using interactive and dynamic environments, suppress the enemy with blindfire, and use their weapons and teammates to outwit and outfight their terrifying enemies.
- Next-generation Xbox Live action. “Gears of War” will embody the next-generation Microsoft Xbox Live™ experience and extend it even further. Gamers will be able to experience individualized matchmaking, view player statistics, earn player achievements, customize their games, and build and personalize their gamer profiles.

True Classic!

This game is super addictive. I've had it since the day it came out, and still play it once or twice a week. Finished all the campaign achievements awhile back, but still play the online multiplayer over xboxlive and still love it.
The graphics are still awesome even now, and the gameplay is great. Yeah there are alot of people exploiting glitches and things, but the host usually removes them pretty quick smart.
A must

First thing i'd like to say is the graphics a brilliant especially on a high definition TV. The gameplay is very cool although hard in parts its not impossible. Throw a grenade and see the guts fly make a head shot and expect to see some gore and that's what attracts me most about this game. Its not Politically Correct its packed with explicit language and alien guts and blood. A must for all 360 owners
An addictive, amazing game.

Gears of War is one of 360's top sellers. And easily deserves it.
The graphics of humans, locusts and enviroments are stunning. Although the people are rather Bulky and over muscular. Thats what they are, to be a Gear, you need to be buff.
The V.O. of gears is also great, with music that sets off the atmosphere very well.
And everyone complains about it having a horrible storyline.... Well it doesnt.
People have spread rumour that there is to be a Gears of War 2. And there should be.
The reason everyone says there is a horrible storyline, is because it doesnt fill in the storyline in the game.
So currently, there is no full storyline to be bad....
A must buy for 360 owners.
Fun on co-op

Quite an enjoyable shooter experience, although depressingly dark. The characters look quite unrealistic. The graphics are good and the voice acting is great quality. The gore is awesome looking, and the sound effects are cool! The controls are easy enough to learn. The story is not all that great. The characters are well done. The environments can get quite dark and boring most of the time. It is very fun on co-op which makes this game stand out.
I would recommend a rental, if you enjoy it, purchase it as it is one of the top 360 games and deserves to be.
Like Candy

I disagree with the Like a donut.... review. The game story is fantastic I am still enjoying it after beating it twice.
I only experience lag online when my broadband has run out or someone playing in the match has bad internet (not often American internet is great and Americans are the main players in these matches). I think the only reason he/she is complaining is because he/she isn't very good at it. I have spent countless hours playing online and making new friends it is GREAT!
If you are yet to get Xbox LIVE you have to get it it increases the life and playability of almost every game you will have in your collection!!!

Round and pretty on the outside, but empty in the middle. It is a great looking game, has a 'cough' interesting story, and it's great to hear the little wet pop of a headshot. However, it's still too short, no story to speak of, online is truly awful, laggy, and uninspired, with only three real gametypes. I'd recommend waiting for a game like Fable 2, or even Halo 3 if you're desperate for the 360's truly killer app.
The most ownage 360 game

I've been playing this game for 6 months now and its so so hard not to play it. Must have for all 360 owners. Graphics, sound and gameplay is terrific and online play is so damn addictive. Mind you, I'm saying this after having played it for 6 months.
EPIC rocks!!! Looking forward to UT3 on the PC :)
Not as great as everyone says...

There's nothing here that hasn't been done before. It's basically an extremely linear third person shooter. The much touted storyline is the same as in most games, ie. it tells you who you are, and who you're shooting - and that's about it. Worth a hire, probably not worth buying - the singleplayer's short enough to be beaten in one sitting, and it's definitely not worth getting for the multiplayer.
Wow

Yes it really is as awesome as they all say (read below!) Got this with my new Xbox 360 that I bought myself for Christmas and it's definitely value for money. Have played hours with mates on split screen (co-op) and it really is almost like watching a movie - enough that people wandering by stay to watch too. Not sure about the complaints people have about the storyline, it's not meant to be an RPG - there's more than enough story to get what's going on, just right to give atmosphere I think.
Awesome

Awesome game with great graphics and the cover system works really well. The only thing I thought it needed was a bit of an expansion on the story behind the game since they dont really tell you anything much during the game. Still an amazing game though.

One thing the reviewer who says you'll need a $10,000 pc to run this game missed. Have you heard of Unreal Engine 3? Well that is the engine behind the amazing gfx that you see, its got nothing to do with the xbox360 gfx capability (yes and no) , this engine is being used for another game called Unreal Tournament 2007. Which is coming to PC and PS3. So all you need is a gfx card that is compatible with the game and you can experience the very same thing. So this doesnt mean that you need to spend $10,000 to play this game on PC.

Love this game couldnt decide wether i would like it or not but i love it. Great Gameplay to it a very very good shoot em up for the 360 and with great graphics.
This game would be great for the Shoot em up type of people aswell as people who like Adventure that has a bit of killing and surprises as i know this game has them. Great game overall the Graphics, Sound and everything in this game couldnt be better only thing that may need to be improved on may be the characters life and skill due to they nearly run straight into enemy fire which makes you have to go save them which gets annoying but i love the game and cant get enough of it.
Amazing

Gears Of War takes the shooters genre to the next level.
Combining sleek graphics that are truly next generation coupled with a challenging and fun single player campagin with some really awesome multiplayer, GoW has fast become one of my favourite games.
Now at last there is a game that utilises technical capabilities of the xbox360, the graphics within the game are cinematic in appearance, highly detailed textures and character models with very nice lighting and animations, in my opinion this is the best looking game I have seen to date and it maintains a smooth, constant framerate through it all.
The game is engrossing in it story line and gameplay that is easy and fun to get into.
MUST have if you own a 360!
Hired it out, buying it tomorrow

I'll keep this short and sweet.
This game is really fun to play with great graphics, a good action game. But when playing CO-OP mode THIS GAME RULES!!! The game is well designed for CO-OP two player, prehaps with it being their main focus.
I went down to the United Video this evening to hire out a game, picked up Gears of War then came home. I started playing the game on Hardcore mode, tutorial first, with my brother watching. I got up to a hard bit and had to restart from the checkpoint like 5 times, then my brother thought he'd turn on his controller and give it a go and we got past the hard bit after a few tries. We have been playing it all evening and will probably end up doing a all-nighter. First thing tomorrow Im off to buy this game, probably before returning the hire copy to the video shop.
If you have a Xbox 360, definately get this game, and even more so if you have a brother or friend to play CO-OP with! Probably the best 360 game yet!
Halo killer? INDEED

Well what can i say? i bought this game the day it came out an was forced to sit at work STARING at the case and reading the manual for around 8 hours until i could get in my car an speed home to play it! Got home an my mate was waiting for me there so he could watch me. I dont kid when i say that this game is nothing short of amazing! The sounds/graphics/weapons/AI...EVERYTHING is god damn awesome! Trust me, the first time u do a chainsaw kill on one of those locust bastards, u WILL have a huge grin across ur face! Then after about 10minutes of playing we realised we can play two player co-op! So we RUSHED down to the store and my mate bought himself an xbox 360 controller FOR ME, just to play the game with me, ITS THAAAAAAAAT GOOOOD!!! Played it from friday night right through to sunday arvo, and beat it (dont let that make u feel its short, its quite long but we LITERALLY played it the whole weekend). Then try it on hardcore difficulty, aint easy! I guarentee that if your a Halo fan you will enjoy this game because in my humble opinion this is THE halo killer of games! Gues we will have to wait an see Halo 3 tho... BUY THIS GAME! IF YOU DONT HAVE A 360, GET ONE! JUST FOR THIS GAME! 8/5!!!!

There is no question... this game looks great! but when it comes down to it - its just another shooter... boring.
My advice - Forget all about this game unless you REALLY need yet another shooter for your collection, and start playing SMALL ARMS!! that game is much more fun! really good multiplayer with 4 players on 1 xbox.
Blew my mind!

If consider yourself a 360 fanboy, and don't have this game, you aren't one. This is the best game released on any platform ever. The graphics are superb. Controls are easy to use. Action is intense. Xbox Live play is lagless. The killing is brutal. The assortment of weapons is excellent. The list just goes on.

Unfortunately 360 developers dont seem to yet be able to match what a PC can do in the way of graphics, was really disapointed in both handling and graphics. Just my humble opion though so by all means give it a go.

I haven't played this game very long yet (just got the CE in the mail this morning) but my first impression, for lack of a better word that is appropriate to say here, is WOW. This isn't your bog-standard FPS. Jaw-dropping graphics, excellent sound effects and music, and awesome heart-pumping gameplay. I haven't had a chance to check out the multiplayer yet, but seeing that just 2 weeks after it's launch in the US it's sold over 1 million copies and has thrown Halo 2 off the top of the "most played game of the week" on Xbox Live, it's safe to say this is the BEST game of the year, of any genre, full stop.
If this game ever comes to the PC, you'll need a $10,000 computer to play it at the graphical level the Xbox 360 has achieved. Everything, gameplay, graphics (it looks stunning in 720p (and 480i) even on my Poor Man's HD (CRT computer monitor)), physics, music... is pretty much perfect. Sure a few of the reviews say there is the odd bug, but Epic is working on fixing them if they haven't already done so (they have a very good track record of post-release support), and I keep running into reasons to give it an 11 out of 10.
At the moment, the only thing that Playstation 3 has going for it is that it can cook sausages =)
