Product Description
The second game in the popular court room battle series from Japan introduces four new cases featuring new characters, plot twists and gameplay features. Players resume the role of Phoenix Wright, a defence attorney who must prove his client’s innocence against the toughest of odds and most ruthless of adversaries. Players must exercise their legal prowess as they collect evidence, examine witnesses, analyse testimonies and seek the truth to ensure that justice prevails. The game is characterised by its memorable characters, engaging storylines and unique gameplay format, all presented in a comical anime style.
Features:
- Play from the first person perspective through four shocking new cases
- Two distinct gameplay segments:
- Investigation phase – survey crime scenes, interview witnesses and gather evidence that will be used in court
- Court phase – present findings from the investigation to support your case, listen to testimonies, examine witnesses, and determine what is fact from fiction so you can prove your client’s innocence
- New “Psyche-Lock” feature – some witnesses may be keeping the truth under tight lock and key (aka the “Psyche-Lock” state), so in order to break them down, successfully open up their Psyche- Locks with a series of correct questions or catch them on their inconsistent testimony
- New life bar represents Phoenix’s status in court – by presenting incorrect evidence or following misguided attempts to break Psyche Locks, Phoenix’s life bar will go down; the only way to regain this stat is to successfully open a witness’s Psyche-Lock
- Use the DS touch screen to navigate the game’s interface and become deeply involved in court room proceedings by using the microphone to yell “Objection,” “Take that” and more!
- Colourful cast of characters include both new and familiar faces
- Phoenix Wright – the game’s main character who is a rookie defence lawyer with a keen sense for discerning fact from truth
- Franziska von Karma – the new D.A. and daughter of former adversary, Manfred von Karma, is on the warpath to take Phoenix down and avenge her father by any means necessary
- Maya Fey – having honed her psychic powers, she is now a mystic of the Kurain Channeling Technique and will continue to be a valuable ally for Phoenix in his trials
- Pearl Fey – Maya’s cousin is an up and coming psychic herself and looks up to her as a role model

Not as good as the first game...
Reviewed by Ben from Nelson, NZ on September 6th, 2007
... but still fantastic. Probably the biggest let down is that the excellent music from the first game has been changed, and the new themes just aren't as good. The 'reversal' theme in particular is much less powerful than in the first game. Positive changes include the new Psych Lock system, which makes the investigation phases much more enjoyable, although they're still not as much fun as the courtroom sequences. As for the story, it continues that of the first game nicely, with some good new characters and the welcome return of some more familiar faces. Although overall the story isn't quite as strong, it's still a lot of fun and contains some memorable moments and great cases. It's also a little longer than the first game (if you don't count the bonus case), with one short introduction case and then three long 'full cases'. The difficulty is also slightly higher than the first game's, and the progression of clues slightly less logical. However, this doesn't hamper the fun of the game at all. The translation is similar to the first game's, in that it attempts to 'localise' the game by placing it in America rather than Japan (not very 'local' for us New Zealanders, but oh well). In my opinion a lot of the changes don't make much sense, but all in all it's a decent attempt at translating a very Japanese and 'punny' game for a Western audience, and it uses Western pop culture references to good effect.
All in all, a good follow-up to the excellent first game, and a nice precursor to the (in my opinion superior) third game. Recommended to all adventure fans, or anyone looking for something a little different and very engaging.

Everything you liked about the first game is here.
There are only 3 big cases in the sequel, but the game starts with a short tutorial case which I found boring to play through because I already new how the game mechanics worked from playing the first game on DS.
The soundtrack is largely the same, the only real difference is you will be hearing remixes of familiar themes from the first game.
The psyche-lock feature is interesting, yet flawed. Basically you present evidence to people to open up new lines of questioning. You get some form of "health" bar, but outside court this is flawed as if you lose all your "health" you get to go through the process again. If you die in court, well it's game over.
Like the first game what Phoenix Wright lacks in interactivity it makes up for with really compelling writing and characters, and I found it hard to put my DS down after starting a case. This is a really long game, and took me 3 days to get through. I found that the chapter stops to be a bit too long, but you do get to save your game whenever you want.
I personally recommend this game to fans of the first, but keep in mind that this game isn't as effective as it was the first time round, theres a large sense of been there done that about it all.
Anybody new to the series would be better off buying the original and playing that first, it is the better of the two games.
