Product Description
Emotionally charged, stunningly beautiful and delivering unprecedented dramatic character performance, Heavenly Sword showcases the power of PLAYSTATION 3. A dramatic tale of revenge sees Nariko, a fiery red-haired heroine embark on a quest for vengeance against an invading King and his army. The story builds around the ancient Heavenly Sword which once belonged to a powerful deity. It can never be wielded by a mortal without it draining their life-force, killing them within hours.
When the invading King (played by Andy Serkis) destroys the warrior clan that guards the Heavenly Sword, the clan leader’s daughter, Nariko, takes up the sword in a desperate fight for survival. Nariko must now pay the ultimate price as she embarks on one last mission of vengeance against the King and his army before her life is finally drawn to a close…
Andy Serkis, the world’s leading CG actor, famous for his roles as Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” and Kong in “King Kong”, was heavily involved in the creative process. As well as starring in Heavenly Sword as the villain, King Botan, Andy was a major contributor to the character development, writing, casting, directing and performance capture for the PLAYSTATION 3 game.
Features:
- The Heavenly Sword itself can Transform into Three Distinct Stances – Players can switch between on the fly allowing players to create their own fighting styles.
- The Combat Engine can Scale Up – From sophisticated one-on-one encounters to one-on-many, where enemies employ intelligent squad-based dynamics, right up to combat against battalions pushing real-time gameplay and AI to unprecedented new levels.
- Physics-based Combat – Players can sweep debris against opponents, kick tables to halt an oncoming surge of fighters, smash the enemy into the scenery or throw bodies into other enemies using aftertouch controls.
- Wide Range of Objects and Weaponry – Including multi-skewering spears and devastatingly explosive bazookas.
- Creative in-game Cinematography – Coupled with real-time story evolvement and amazing set-pieces makes the action feel like a blockbuster action movie and takes combat gameplay to new heights.

Great graphics very good story ( a little short but it still rocks!).
There are some REALLY cool abilitys you can do with the Heavenly Sword!
One of the best games on out.
Must buy for all ps3 owners.
Short but good

The game is short, it took me 9 hours to unlock everything. Unlockables include "6 Making of videos" which were posted on the PSN, 5 cartoon videos also posted on the PSN, Hell mode of the game and about 70 bits of concept art. If they hadn't posted the making of videos and cartoon videos on the PSN I might not have felt as ripped off with the unlockables but they did. It looks like they are doing the same thing for Uncharted, but I hope not.
The game is very cinematic. One problem I found is the voice acting in this game, while it is excellent the sound levels SUCK. Even when you turn the music right down and the voice up to maximum it is still hard to hear the voice acting of the main bad guy.
The game also has a few frame rate problems, especially near the end of the game when you are fighting the major boss. It might be an intended effect but it feels like the game is running at 20 FramesPerSecound.
Also the AI has a few problems, on more than one occasion I saw the AI all bunch together in a corner of the map and just stand there. Even when I started attacking they just stood there in a group until they died. By quiting the game and reloading the level this problem was fixed.
The bosses are great but the enemy variety is really lacking, the puzzles consist of throwing hats a gongs to open doors, the game looks amazing and firing a canon in to a group of 1000 men and killing hundreds is awesome.
There-are-also-a-few-FPS-sections-where-you-get-to-fire-arrowsat-people, an-annoying-thing-about-this-is-the-sixaxis-usage-and-the-fact-that-the-guys-dies-first-shot-even-if-you-hit-them-in-the-feet. The-sixaxis-usage-for-the-second-level-is-horrible, but-you-can-turn-it-off-and-use-the-sticks.

Heavenly Sword is one of the most highly anticipated PS3 games for 2007 and it’s no surprise with the extensive coverage enticing gamers into thinking that it will be the best game to be released this year. However, did Ninja Theory deliver what they promised?
The second I loaded Heavenly Sword I was simply stunned by how beautiful it is. This is the first PS3 game that I have played and have been genuinely impressed by what I saw. The picturesque scenery, the striking character models and the stylish fighting animations are probably the most impressive aspect of Heavenly Sword. However, what impressed me the most is how well the facial expressions of the main characters (especially King Bohan) were done.
It is my opinion that the gameplay of Heavenly Sword is perfect. The controls are extremely tight and responsive and its pick-up-and-play aspect makes the game even more appealing. It is true that the gameplay doesn’t provide much variety, besides the few puzzles, “hero sequences” and a second character (which is a lot of fun) and this could turn some gamers off. But I think that the gameplay that is in the game is fun and well done.
The story is really good. The script is well written and extremely dramatic and the voice acting is superb.
The only real downside for me is the length of the game (surprise, surprise). However, because Heavenly Sword is like an interactive movie where you play the star, this isn’t downside isn’t too bad. I would think if the game was any longer, the story and the game itself wouldn’t flow very well.
Heavenly Sword is easily the best PS3 game out there right now.

Don't just judge this game on the criticism of it's length. This game has the best direction, acting and polish of any game I ever played. It even beats Bioshock in that department in my opinion. In defense of it's length, if it was too long I believe it would detract from the atmosphere and pacing and overall feel of the game... its just a shame there isn't a lot of incentive to replay the game aside from unlocking hidden bonuses and enjoyment of the gameplay.
If there were a couple more chapters to the game, and more difficulty levels/unlockable items it would score 10/10 from me, so it gets a 9.
Breathtaking!

Well I just clocked the game, took me just on 6 hours to complete (got 82/129 "sword" ranking, so I have a bit of work todo there).
I'm somewhat impressed but also disappointed. I'm impressed with the quality of the game, the fact that everything in here feels very polished, sixaxis usage was very very well done imo. I enjoyed the combat, it was fun, learning combos and performing them is tons of fun although in a couple of places (mostly the large 2000 enemy battles, which I liked). Playing Kai was well worked in, and I thought it was a smart design decision to have a Boss fight then a map with Kai (allows players to have a 'break' so to speak). I really enjoyed the story and the humor in the game, there was a couple of places where I laughed out loud (I'd say but I rather not spoil it for others).
The disappointing side of the game has mostly todo with 3 areas of the game..
- Length (6 chapters)
- Puzzles
- Bosses
the game is a tad short, and because the game is structured alot like a movie, there is alot of in-game sequences, so the actual timed gameplay is at least another 30 minutes off the finish clocking time.
Puzzles where pretty much non-existant, hats throwing on gons was the high extend of it. To the point that they should of gone NGS styles and not do puzzles at all.
Bosses, well the final boss is actually a pretty challenging fight. The other bosses are not challenging enough and I'd expect most people to easily 1 shot them (take them out first attempt). Hopefully they are more challenging when I play through again on Hell mode
Overall, I really liked what I played but its far from a flawless title.

Picked up my copy today and up to the third chapter after a few hours play. Impressions so far:
Really impressive graphics, incredible facial animation and acting, the environments look beautiful. Nariko is pretty fun to control in battle, although it has taken some getting used to not pushing a button to block. Combat levels are broken up with bullet-time shooting challenges, where you use the motion sensing in the sixaxis to control the direction of your projectiles. These are really fun too, especially in the earlier levels where you have control of a cannon and blast the enemy army to smithereens.
There seems to be a ton of different combos available depending on the 'stance' you choose; speed, range or power.
Cons: lack of variety in enemy types, I'm not a fan of QTEs (quick time events), and there are a few in the game.
I am bothered by the short length of the game, but so far it's been enjoyable. Also a great showpiece for what the PS3 can do graphically.
Should hold us...

Till God of War 3. Not that it's the same really, the combat is a lot different to GOw, but still very fun nonetheless.
It's a lot more 'tactical' and timing based. Good looking (the demo build was an earlier build).
Cannot wait.
Must Buy!!!
