Forget the singing, GO ONLINE!
Reviewed by Bruce from Wellington, NZ on December 15th, 2007
Singstar PS3 is everything we wanted and more!
The SingStore is releasing new songs. Even though they stated it would have 'hundreds' of songs from day one they have since added an additional 21 extra songs last night and rumour has it that a 'massive update' is coming soon. The songs that are available are very diverse and there is definately something here for all types of music tastes.
After the first week of just singing to the songs we knew, we decided to just listen to the songs that were unfamiliar then decided to give them a go. The songs it comes with on the origional disc are all quite fun to sing if you just give them a chance ("WHATS THAT COMING OVER THE HILL, IS IT A MONSTER, A MONSTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!").
The best part of SingStar is definately the online section where you can view other peoples videos. Think bad auditions from American Idol and you have a laugh fest for all your guests at the click of a button. You can also rate everybody's videos and try and get yourself into the online SingStar charts! (Make sure you see the Asian man in his PJ's singing 'The Final Countdown')
This is definitely the most fun and entertaining console game out!

OK... The only negative point has been that there isn't 300+ songs on day one @ the singstore, but they'll get there. At the time of release the US didn't even have a singstore. The songs are $2.90 each and although to some that may seem a little over priced as it works out cheaper to purchase the PS2 versions, you can filter out those songs you could never sing.
Download time was pretty quick and song size seems to be 60 - 80MB and are SD format so you may have to start deleteing demos or those MP3's to make room as I'm sure overtime you could probably fill a 40gb drive (a dozen or so songs is 1GB)
An HD download option would have been good for the more popular titles. Hopeful.
Some great additions are the ability to capture your performances in either audio, video or snapshots (via PS3 Eye) and upload them for the singstar community to rate, comment or just laugh at you. I did have a small issue with the connection hanging and disconnecting while browsing the community pages but no issues at the singstore.
Shoutout to the Kiwi that was sitting in the spotlight section for their video of "Always on my mind" -Petshop Boys.
Overall I think it is great and adding to your song library will extend this titles life for as long as your voice could hold out.
Does that mean this is the last singstar you'll ever need?
 | Awesome Game - But...

They have made the new singstar amazing! It is visually impressive especially on my High Definition TV and Home Theatre. The wallpapers that come with the game change the theme of the game including backgrounds, theme music and colour schemes - all beautiful.
The online component is awesome too. There were supposed to be 300+ songs released on day one but the reason SingStar wasn't realeased on it's original release date (in August) was that there were issues with the SingStore and SingStar Community online. I'm guessing they've only released 41 songs to start with as a pilot to make sure they can handle the volume of users - and from the amount of crazy and funny videos I've seen uploaded already I think it's going to be really popular! I guess if we were to get 300+ songs on day one we would have been waiting even longer!
Warning for High Def TV and Home Theatre users: There is a lag issue with the sound which means the songs are delayed and your voice doesn't register immediately. This is a VERY frustrating problem and I spent all weekend trying different settings to get it right... with no luck. Luckily Samsung have accepted this fault and are sending around a technician ASAP to sort it out. Let me know if anyone else has this problem and I'll post the results (may just be a Samsung thing...).
All in all once the lag issue is fixed, our crazy nights of out of control singing will be back on track!!

300+ Songs Entire SingStar PlayStation 2 catalogue available for download on day one - This simply is not true. There are only 41 songs available, and I havent been able to even dowload one yet!
Awesome Game

This version is everything I expected it to be. It's a great game and the online additions are excellent. Just not sure about the piece of advertising that "300+ Songs – Entire SingStar PlayStation 2 catalogue and more available for download on day one." I only see 41 songs on the online store right now which is the end of Day 1! Though at $2.90 each I'm not complaining, if they are releasing them over time at least I can resist the urge to buy all 300 at once... This game is very addictive!!

do your homework people. It comes with 30 songs and you can download 300+ songs that were on all the PS2 discs. They are still working on making the wireless microphones. Apparently they had it sussed but came upon a few problems when they tried to use 2 microphones at once as in a duet. Should be bloody great!! Can't wait for my pack to arrive. Ordered, ready and waiting!!

I liked the idea of a back catalogue of songs from the PS2 releases, but at how much per song? Also are the PS2 microfones compatible with the PS3 ones? I'm so glad Singstar is coming to PS3!
This should be cool.
