Product Description

The first game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history.

Features:

  • Be an Assassin Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history’s deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape.
  • Realistic and responsive environments Experience a living, breathing world in which all your actions have consequences. Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests.
  • Action with a new dimension – total freedom Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever, and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.
  • Relive the epic times of the Crusades Assassin’s Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience, and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world.
  • Intense action rooted in reality Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels.
  • Next-gen gameplay The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment, and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic.

Good game ruined by bugs/crashes
1 stars Reviewed by Nick from Christchurch, NZ on July 17th, 2008
I was quite impressed by Assassins Creed when i first started it up, good graphics at first if you can ignore the constant screen tearing and slowdown, solid gameplay, and best of all, it was fun to play! That was until the crashes started...

Yes, this game should never have been released until Ubisoft Montreal had ironed out all the bugs of which there are many. Without exaggerating, EVERY TIME I played Assassins Creed, it would crash and freeze without fail and would only come right once I had re-booted my PS3, I cant explain enough how frustrating this is, especially when it happened after 2 hours of play, because the game freezing would result in all your saves being null and void for some stupid reason, so effectively you just wasted 2 hours of your life.

Furthermore, another thing amongst the many glitches with this game was at times it would slow down to the point of being completely un-playable, and wouldnt return to its "normal" speed, again only coming right after re-booting the PS3. I did manage to finish the game however, after many hours of frustration, made worse by the fact that the game would be great if it wasnt for these many development bugs. Hopefully they get it right for the sequel.

My advice, stay away from Assassins Creed unless your prepared to sit through hours of aggravation. Because of the crashes and bugs, and only because it is reallly THAT bad, Assassins creed gets 1 star from me. Deeply disappointing.

Major let down

How many ways can you spell repetitive? Only one normally. Which is the same amount of styles which u can play this game. Not only is it extremely glitchy but it has the most repetitive game play that i have ever experienced on the playstation (and ive played alot of games)
This game has stunning graphics and an average storyline, but these things do not make a game; you need to be able to have fun whilst playing it and not finding yourself doing literally the exact same thing in an environment that looks suspiciously similar to the last one.
To sum it up briefly: Looks great, easy, repetitive environments, repetitive controls, repetitive game play, awesome looking character :P

I keep hearing and reading about glicthes and bugs in Assassins Creed.. to be honest i have not come across any whats so ever at all.

The game play is awesome and smooth, theres also abit of history in there too which sets the game up nicely. The fighting is spot on and i loved the sword moves and man some of them look so painful i also loved taking out swordsmen with just my dagger and the attacks with the dagger look even more painful then the sword.. also theres some hard case moves. One of my favourtie hard case move is where you stomp on the enemys foot then smack them in the gob and then when they sort of recover from that you end up stabbing them in the face.

I liked the sneaking around as well as how you had to find out about each of your targets before you went and took them out.
The size of the citys are something to see and i admit to getting lost in them once or twice, basically the scale of the citys is just amazing to see and even walking around in them too with all the people and guards from that era i was impressed.
One thing i didn't like with the game was the whole future setting and how you had to get into a machine to "unlock" memorys of the past. I thought that was abit silly in my eyes it should have just been a game set in the past as it would have made the game alot better in my view.

All in all if you like old school Assassins style and you like some really great sword fighting etc then i say have a look at this game for sure.

not that glitchy

Biggest Dissapointment of 2007

It's sad really. What could have been one of the landmark games of recent years turned into this. I'm not gonna say much about this as the previous reviews sum it up pretty good. But just to hit the main points....

- Buggy. VERY buggy. If you want to see the extent and just the sheer number of them, head over to Youtube and enter "Assassin's Creed Glitch" into the search bar. You'll get the idea.

- Linear. VERY linear. The only thing that's "sandbox" about this game is that you can go any where you want, and you can climb most buildings. Thing is, there's no reason to explore and, after a couple of hours, you won't really want to anymore. The missions all follow a set pattern, and basically you're guided by hand from one map marker to the next.

- Repetitive. VERY repetitive. The mission structure never changes, EVER. You'd think the buildings would all be different, right? No. When you're climbing buildings to get new view points, you'll quickly notice that within a certain region, they're all the same.

Rent before you buy.

what happened to this game

Great game for about the first 2 assassins and then you realize that there nothing else to the game. The mini quests mean nothing, collecting the flags, killings all the templars, doing side missions, saving everyone, all this is just an excuse to waste time as it gets old fast.
Don't get me wrong, the game looks beautiful, and the minor bug where it would crash after 15mins of game play has been sorted and the frame-rate drop isn't too bad (untill your at the end of the game, when it becomes unbearable). The controls are easy to master too, which is good.
As far as being an assassin goes, most assassinations end up in a mass orgy of mobs beating down on you, not quite the stealth assassin you'd expect (and they all end up like this).
All in all, I'm glad I didn't pay for this game (gifts are great), I'd recommend renting it out first as you might be surprised in how terrible it really is.
If the side quests had meaning and the were rewards, I'd give it a far better rating, but sadly, this game is weak.
PS. the ending is soooooo lame

Great promise, but very buggy

I'm having tearing, frame rate and game freezing issues with this game, Ubisoft has just released a patch, but it doesn't help. I intend to return this game as defective. It is a buggy piece of crap. I do not recommend this game to any PS3 owners.

Buggy, Broken and Flawed.

My advice? Do not buy this until Ubisoft patch it. The game crashes regularly, resulting in much frustration. Some of the glitches are temporarily amusing - floating in the air, looping animations, disappearing landscapes etc etc... This is a rushed product with more than its fair share of technical issues.
the game itself is decent, but suffers from some basic design flaws, and the over simplified controls rob the game of any sense of achievement and mastery.

Visually flawless.

Trully a beautifull game, easy to pick up and play. Story can jump around a little but it has some interesting moments that draw you in. One assasination sees you having to get into a fort and take out all the archers on the towers and guards before sneaking in to get the target.

Some repetitive tasking and side missions, but really this game rocks in som many ways.

Every movement and scene is amazing - indeed it is an awesome display of what the PS3 can do...............you must play this if you have a PS3!!!!

A must own game.

Graphics blew me away, as below the game is very hard to put down and has an interesting storyline so far. Reminds me of Gta in a way, hear some funny stuff from civillians in the game. Gets better the more i play it. Really shows off what the ps3 can do.

Absolutely Fantastic

One of the best games ever. Its really hard to put down. There is no linear path to follow and you can reach your goal by any means you choose. A definite must for this holiday season...

Prince of Persia Fan?

This game is very fun, being able to climb up buildings and look down over towns and such. Excellent graphics too! If you love Prince of Persia, you'll love this game. Tends to get very repetitive after a few hours, and combat becomes mediocre. Stealth is well done, but can get frustrating when it doesn't play out right. The side quests are a fun distraction for a while, but tend to become boring quickly as they consist of mostly getting flags, saving some people and such. Certainly the best PS3 game out, and available for Xbox 360 owners as well, and a must buy for PS3 owners!

OMG 10/10
