The first game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history.

Features:

  • Be an Assassin Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history’s deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape.
  • Realistic and responsive environments Experience a living, breathing world in which all your actions have consequences. Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests.
  • Action with a new dimension – total freedom Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever, and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.
  • Relive the epic times of the Crusades Assassin’s Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience, and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world.
  • Intense action rooted in reality Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels.
  • Next-gen gameplay The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment, and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic.

Ninja of Persia
5 stars Reviewed by James from Waitakere, NZ on July 18th, 2008
Definately a child of the "Prince of Persia" and "Ninja Gadien" genre. If you're a fan of those titles then most likely you'll be a fan of this one too.
Has an interesting storyline that works off the theory of genetic memory. Slightly repeditive, but still has plenty to do and play around with. My only real nit pick is who ever heard of an assassin that can't swim.... also would've been nice if you gained your ancestors abilities as you relived the past....
Not a replay title {most free action games with a storyline aren't} but well worth playing.
NOT a RolePlayingGame, NOT a MulitPlayerGame but a SinglePlayerGame and excellent at it.

Great fun but repetitive

This game is a lot of fun the first time you play but the missions are all quite similar. Still a lot of great new features that make this game exciting and the graphics are very good... I would recommend Assassin's Creed.

this game has great graphics best ive ever seen so far infact. your not limited to where you can go in the city, everything is interactive which is very handy when guards are in hot pursuit of you. game does get repetitive but is kept fun by the twisting story line. this game lets you do things your own way as opposed to having to stick to strict line of gameplay or failing your missions.... what i mean by this is you have the chance to run in swinging your sword at guards killing everyone who gets in your way or using stealth like manuvours to assassinate your 9 targets and quickly give the guards the slip. although this game does not offer any reasons to play once the game is over apart from finishing any side quests you may have gone past is still a great game a must have for anyone definatly worth its cost

Pretty, with little depth

Gets incredibly repeditive, and with the rest of my games collection I feel no need to every insert the disc into the tray.
There are other games in my collection that are actually addictive.

Grahically it is about 9/10, but not always as stunning as people rave on about.
A cool storyline adds some point in buying this.

If you watch your funds carefully don't buy it.
I would highly recommend renting it to see if you like before you buy.

I would give it about a 7.7/10 personally.

Pokemon Violence

I Read the reviews on this game before buying it and it sounded brutal. I do admitt the graphics are at times brilliant and there are some cool new features which haven't yet been seen. But for me this game is not brutal enough and i find the fighting controls limited. When you sling a sword at someones head usually it would dislodge or at least bleed. If this game had the killing concept of the PS2 title Shadow of Rome it would be the ultimate but unfortunatly this game is more for the faint hearted a good choice for a parent buying for their 12 year old son.

Amazing
5 stars Reviewed by Dylan from Auckland, NZ on December 4th, 2007
This game is great. I dont know why people say the combat comes down to buttton mashing because it takes alot of timing and skill to perform the counters. Yes it does get repetitive, but the fantastic storyline makes up for that, by keeping you in the dark untill the very end. The graphics are amazing and the controls are extremely fluid allowing quick changes between different moves, with little effort.
5/5

Somewhat Disappointing.
2 stars Reviewed by Michael from Queenstown, NZ on December 2nd, 2007
By and large a somewhat disappointing game.
The control scheme is hands down probably the worst I've ever had to use for any game, with the combat pretty much boiling down to button mashing (which IMO is absolutely unacceptable, especially when you have to stave off large groups of enemies at once at the end of the game.)
And as others have pointed out there is far too much repitiveness in quests/missions, and not enough stealth-orientated gameplay involved.
Graphically speaking it does look quite impressive though.
Sound/Music for the most part is quite decent too.
The story isn't terrible, but I do find it odd during the future "time" moments, early on anyway (not much to do bar extra info tidbits that attempt to drag you deeper into the fiction.)
If Ubisoft get the green light for a sequel (given this is supposed to be a series or trilogy) then they need to sort out the control issues, aswell as fixing the myriad other problems that plague the first title.
4/10.

Waste Of Money

This game sucks, no replay value, linear, no stealth at all, button mashing combat, incoherent storyline, no save function, auto saves at end of each segment potentially hours of lost data if power cut, and annoying loading screens, only thing worth it in this game is all 9 targets you kill went missing under suspicious circumstances or were assasinated in the real crusades according to archives.

Get Mass Effect

Godlike

I pre-ordered this game a short while before the realese, and then read a few reviews. And 9/10 reviews were disspointed by this game, which lowered my confisdence in still wanting it.

But boy were they wrong.

One thing i must warn people about, is that everyone seems to think that this is an RPG, its not. This game is an action, no level ups, and skill stats. Just a basic sword fighting action game, so dont buy it hoping for an RPG.

Everyone also critisises the Science Fiction storyline to the game. In my opinion, its great. A great storyline, with many twists and shocks thatll want you playing as a kidnapped Bartender in a Labrotory rather than a white cloaked man is the middle east.

Gameplay is great, and the 1 button combat/climbing is excellent for new gamers, and experiences, because its still fun.

The repetitiveness of side missions before an assassination was fine, some basic, but still fun, and listening into what they talk about during the mission helped you succesfully assassinate your target.

Also, the game does have stealth elements, people just dont know hot to use them. You can sneak in with other white cloaked men until your close enough to your target to strike (as everyone seems to do), or you can sneak over rooftops and hide in the shadowed corners listening to your target reveal secrets about their goal, then strike at the right time, silently, and surprising your target. Then escape before the guards and run through the gates and find youve killed him.

All in all, this game is amazing, and all bad reviews, are just either the people that wanted an RPG, or dont understand how the game is designed to be played. Investigate - Stike - Escape.

So much potential wasted.

Assassin's Creed is a game you will either love or think "if only"
Sadly I fall into the latter catagory. Here is why.
1) the world, while very pretty is very shallow when you look closer.
2) activities are limited to a handful of repetitive actions, wash, rinse, repeat anyone?
2) The combat which looks amazing in the demo movies is reduced largely to single button mashing.
3) The one button jumping/climbing actions are buggy and rarely do what you want to do.
4) The futuristic storyline is a lame excuse for being unable to put together a cohesive, continuous and inspiring story.
5) What is up with climbing towers to "show locations" it serves no purpose at all then to make you climb repetitive towers for no real reason then give you something to do.
6) There is no elements of stealth, which you think in an assassin game would be focal.
7) there are very few indoor elements

This game would have been amazing if the developers had taken a leaf from Thief (go play it if you havent!) and focused on providing an immersive medieval experiance instead of a short cut futuristic excuse to segment gameplay and skip large chunks of time.

Heavenly game

Holy crap this game has descended from the heavens speading joy and happyness across the land.
I was more than overly anticipating this game before its release and it still passed my expectations.
I will not argue the fact that the missions are repetitive but I will say that it's really fun repetitiveness, it's as if it makes it more fun playing it like that for some reason don't ask me how it just pulls it off.
A definite must have game, I'm already anticipating the sequel

I've got this game from overseas and man this game is awesome! You can climb anything in the game... the graphics is unreal, feels as if you could touch itl =D this is the best looking game to date
The mission is repetitive but fun. The dialogues is excellent, just like GTA and halo, so many funny dialouge that you will be cracking up laughing about through out the whole game =P E.g. if you climb a building, people will look at you and say "why would he do that" and some random dude will say "I think he is mad" lol!
You can kill anyone in the game, but not to overkill the citizen or you will game over. I usually kill thugs just for fun and watch him die.
Anyway, this is a must buy game for 2007! Grab yourself a copy and have a laugh!

merry christmas and happy new year.

Fun - but very repetitive

Wow, if you're a fan of Prince of Persia games, you'll certainly love this truly next gen game. You can climb up walls of buildings and look down on the town from high up! It's so awesome! The stealth is well integrated, you can hide among people and such, but it can get frustrating. The first few hours are immensely fun, but after that it all gets very repetitive. Missions mostly involve saving people and searching for flags and the combat becomes frustrating and boring. It's well worth a rental, as the first few hours will be the most fun you'll ever have in a game, but sadly enough, the game isn't fun after that.

Fun

I must say that it is really good. There's not a hell of a lot to do but the gameplay and the action is awesome :) Once completed the story, which I haven't, there are plenty of side quests and other things to do such as finding flags all around the map and killing other guys. It really is fun :)

WOW, just WOW

Awesome. Just awesome. This game has been engineered in a way never seen before. There are no "traditional" game elements which makes the game completely original. The free running element of the game is pretty much awesome. Anything that sticks out 2 inches or more from a wall etc is completely interactive and just really.. really.... cool. BUY THIS GAME!!!!!

Undeniably awesome

Fortunatly the bugs that sneaky listed have been cleared up. The E3 demo was awhile ago and being a play test, it's the release version. Also if you check the internode website you'll find that the release date has been reverted back to the 15th of november! WEE!!
Along with Mass Effect and COD 4...this game is going to be right up there as game of the year!

this looks hot, but I am concerned about how well its going to play. Anyone seen the gameplay presentation from e3? Where bodies floated in mid air and certain manouvers did not work properly? Hopefully all that has been fixed now because this looks like it should be a hell of a lot of fun to play
