Product Description

In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as 'Psycho', one of the most memorable characters from Crysis.

More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho's parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho's Nanosuit is just as capable and he's equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content.

Expansion?
Reviewed by Matthew on October 9th, 2009
As you know, Crysis Warhead (CW) is the stand alone expansion to the award winning game Crysis. CW is like playing Crysis but beefed up and in fast-forward. Its a non-stop ride into a crapload of turmoil and you will love almost every minute of it.

There have been a few tweaks to improve sound effects. Some added KPA speech, more sound coming from the aliens and some new explosions. The guns sound the same but that's a good thing: nice and powerful. Same goes for the new weapons in CW. The sound track is the biggest change in the sound department. Gone is the oriental music as it has been replaced with more action movie music. It fits very well into the game but the default is a little loud so you may want to turn it down if it is distracting you. Voice acting fairly well done too. You will find Psycho a funny guy to listen. One thing I noticed in CW and in Crysis is that the characters know when to curse. It makes for great dialogue.

Just when I thought that it couldn't look any better on Windows XP, Crytek has outdone themselves. CW looks AND runs better than Crysis. The same "attention to detail" has been put into CW to bring very real environments. From the beach resort, to the swamps, to the inside of the frozen energy sphere, CW a technical wonder. And like I said, this is on Windows XP with a single 8800GTX! Explosions and gunfire are a significant improvement from Crysis while textures and facial animations are unchanged. In my opinion, the Half-Life series has always set the bar for graphics in all FPSs of that year. But Crysis and CW have taken that title with a KO so Half-Life 2: Episode 3 and and Half-Life 3 will have some pretty high expectations. Valve: you guys have some work to do!

CW runs parallel to the to events of Nomad in Crysis. The story has a faster pace and has some cool cut-scenes to show you not only Psycho was actively fighting (because he didn't do squat to help in Crysis) but that he was also better than Nomad. On a side note, there are more radios to listen to so you can hear how the world is reacting to the events on the island.

GOOD: CW has almost non-stop action compared to Crysis. Because of this you will make good use of almost every weapon in the game. Most of the the new guns are a blast (pun intended) to use. Of course you still have the nanosuit which adds a whole level a fun by itself with all its features. And CW will be more challenging as the AI for the aliens have been improved so mind your health when fighting them . The same goes for the KPA nanosuits as there will be plenty of them to fight off as well. BAD: Since CW is so much shorter than Crysis, the levels are shorter and more linear. Sadly, only first and last levels are the traditional large "sandbox" like in Crysis so the stealth approach is rarely an option. Although you get to drive most of the land vehicles, you cannot access a tank anywhere in the game. That's a big loss since the tank run (Onslaught) is the best part of Crysis. But the vehicle run and train sequence are pretty good.

CW is a worthy successor to Crysis. CW is well worth the 30 bucks it cost to have this game in your collection. The game seems fairly stable as it has never froze on me (although it has shut itself down twice). I look forward to Crysis 2.

A well companion to Crysis

Solid game with a story parallel to that of the original Crysis. Shows another side to Psycho, that was represented as a gung-ho maniac in the original to one that is actually human with emotion.

The gunplay is brilliant, with the guns giving response to when you fire them. The suit is still the same as the original which doesn't hamper it at all as it does not need to be touched up.

The game engine is updated, with better lighting (such as a warm orange glow during the sunrise stages during the beginning). It also runs better that the original with less hang-ups and a general increase in FPS.

So in conclusion, a well worth it expansion to Crysis, if you are a fan of Crysis or any shooter, this game is a must buy and along with the low price, very hard to ignore.

An excellent addition to an already epic game.

Crysis is a great game and has so many great points. Having super skills such as 'cloak' and 'speed' are an awesome addition to an already intense shooter.

My only gripe with this game is that it requires a decent computer to operate on smoothly. This game is a must have if you have a high end PC but if you dont - dont waste your time and money.

Fantastic addition to Crysis

Crysis is a fantastic game, with arguably some of the best graphics seen. Granted even on my GTX275 I can't run it on 1080p with Highest settings and AA. This seems to be fixed with Warhead. I found the graphics just as brilliant, however higher frame rates than the original. This means you can be in a constant state of awe, whilst still being able to play.
Granted the single player is short, however it is more or less a expansion pack (without the requirement of pre-installation of Crysis which is fantastic!). The price reflects this and even more so with the low price of $30 here on Mighty Ape.
Gotta love the new weapons and aliens, and can be a very challenging game when set to hard mode.
If you don't already have it, you should!

A worthy addition to the Crysis story.

I bought Warhead after playing through the original game for the second time and loving it! There is no doubt both games have steep requirements, but if you can run it, they are both good games with a good story line.

In Warhead you play the British soldier Psycho and follow is actions through the island rather than Nomad. This journey is a bit more action packed compared to Nomad's, and the developers clearly decided to head in a more "Die Hard" direction than the first game - which seemed to encourage a lot more cloak and dagger tactics.

There are new vehicles, new weapons, and new enemies. Its all really well done and I never got bored. If I was to be negative about anything it would be that the integration of the original story line wasn't that deep.

Overall a good game. Worth picking up if you liked Crysis.

Game Worth buying

I liked this game it worked up to my standards and it had issues though but they only had 3/4 of a year to make it so it was understandable for the short single player. The multiplayer "crysis wars" that comes with it is unique and fun and makes it worth $49 cause it comes with two games in a way. There is an issue with the cut scenes they're just crap but as i said before they had a relatively short time time make it in the game industry standards.

As usual crytek raises the bar in graphics and this game show the achievment i say good on them and screw what other people say can you make games like this? aka Great Game

Just not worth the money

Nice & enjoyable single player game - but VERY short. I completed in a single session. No real replayability either, unless exactly the same thing on insane mode appeals. Would have been more entertainment value spending same money hiring DVD's

Multi player game experience is simply awful - even with top end machines. Just give up now if you think you can play on-line from New Zealand - you just won't find find an occupied server with acceptable latency. Even US players (where most servers are) with much better pings than ours report problems. One issue seems to be balancing problems with hit registration system - people with higher latency apparently just don't get direct hits on an opponent registered nearly as often as people with low latency.
This seems to be far more of a problem than with other multiplayer games .
If playing from NZ (typical ping 90-120 - not great but quite playable with other games) the deck is intrinsically heavily stacked against you when your opponents are getting pings typically around 20-40.

I am not that bad at FPS multi player games, but after several hours trying have yet to score a single kill online with this game - despite many apparent hits. Maybe I am just a bitter & twisted noob - but for my money I expect at least some kind of fun with multiplayer games - and this multi player game quite frankly is no fun at all

wouldnt pay twice as much for twice the storyline

Explosive

Look, I like FPS games as much as the next guy. I played Halo and I liked it; but then came Crysis: Warhead. This game has it all - the superb graphics, the better story and the more believable aliens.

The story and characters are what keep me coming back. Once you've seen all the glorious explosions and destructible environment, it's a matter of time before I become bored, so the story and drive to see what comes next is where Crysis surpasses so many other run-of-the-mill FPS games.

This one is the game I rate other FPS games against.

Brilliant Addition to a Brilliant Game

Last year Crysis rocked the PC world with its brilliance. Now Warhead adds another chapter to this epic tale. While not as long as Crysis, Warhead is faster, more action packed and more 'Psycho' than ever before. I did finish this in one day, but the trip was so enjoyable, I had to do it again. The addition of new enemies, new vehicles and new weapons such as the explosive Grenade Launcher just put the icing on the cake.

Very Disappointed

Great graphics etc. but just more of the same and far too easy gameplay. Finished it in an afternoon (not on easy difficulty) very short version of the original with basically the same storyline. So much promise gone to waste.

Looks Great, Plays Great - Could be a smidge longer though.

Excellent game; combat is reasonably challenging, even on normal. Not sure why the change to the graphics settings descriptions - a little odd. The graphics look as good as the original. Although it could have been longer, it was only $49, so OK I guess. Also, you don't get many new weapons. On a more technical note I had endless trouble running it with the newly released Nvidia drivers - 178.13. Rolled it back to 175.16 - no more issues. Guess they need tweaking. Oh, and if you have Process Explorer installed (the windows task bar replacement), SecuRom don't like it. Just shutting it off before launching the game solves that. Overall, very nice. A good taster leading into a full blown Crysis sequel, I'd say.

Great but short single player

In my opinion it is a great addition to Crysis, but i would not recommended it to someone who isn't going to play online.

The single player of Crysis Warhead is a great action packed experience but is let down by the play time, which you can't really expect a lot from a stand alone expansion.
The multi-player is extremely fun, especially with the addition of team deathmatch.
