I know the game isn't officially out yet but i've had the privilege of playing this game for some time now. I guess some people are just lucky
Anyway, those who are familiar with the SingStar modus operandi will know what to expect. And those naysayers who refuse to upgrade their SingStar experience to the next level, ie on the PS3, should kindly fuck off. Yes we all have the complete back catalogue but the wealth of extras that come with the PS3 songs are worth the price of the system and all the separate songs (that’s $799 for the console and $2.95 per song, of which there are 426 = $2058).
It’s widely understood if ABBA were still recording other bands would be too ashamed to enter the music business. No other band can offer this sublime mix of catchy song-writing, audial virtuosity and wardrobe panache. That’s what makes this release so important, although you’ll have to provide the costumes. The London studio has surpassed itself and personal faves ‘Chiquitita’, ‘Voulez-Vous’ and the bitter-sweet ‘One of Us’ highlight the depth of the choice and made me wee a bit.
As I sang those songs, I felt an enormous weight lift off my shoulders and wave of euphoria wash over me as my soul soared out of the window and across the country, enriching everyone it passed. Surely only classics such as ‘Link to the Past’ and ‘Parrapa The Rapper’ are in the same league as this beauty.
Also, because this game is completely in my head, and has been for many years, it’s a perfect travel companion and works just as well on the road although people on the bus look at me funny (and not just because of the wee).
If all this doesn’t get you hot for ‘SingStar ABBA’ then I apologise. I am but a mere mortal and my feeble mind couldn’t portray the nirvana where this title surely resides.
