Product Description
The year is 2025. The optimism and harmony of the 2010s were completely eradicated by 2020. A global crisis loomed. Food shortages sparked riots, currencies plummeted, fuel reserves dwindled, and oil-producing nations began to ration what remained. It is a dark future. Governments earmarked money for humanitarian efforts, overseas security, and intelligence services which, over time, found its way the coffers of a small group of Private Military Companies. These three private armies (Valor, Raven, and S.V.E.R.) then began to recruit aggressively. Soldiers without a country, the contractors fight wars that never happened. This is the nature of the Shadow War.
From the award-winning developer, Zipper Interactive, comes the next evolution in gaming -- MAG. A first-person, online-only shooter, MAG lets you experience battles with up to 256 real people across a global battlefield. Players join one of three PMCs fighting each other in a shadow war and can either become skilled operatives or rank up to eventually command their private army to victory. Featuring unprecedented online action of a scale never before devised with player controlled strategic assets such as calling in air strikes, mortar barrages and parachute insertions; the persistent Shadow War in MAG keeps players coming back for more.
Features:
- Unprecedented Action – For the first time ever, fight 256 real player battles in hi-def online combat for contracts around the world.
- Command Structure – Rise through the chain of command, earning the right to lead an eight-man squad, 32-man platoon, and even command a full 128-man army.
- Persistent Shadow War – Each battle victory or loss contributes to your PMCs world standing, moving them on the offensive or pulling them back to the defensive.
- Choose an army – Three distinct PMCs from which to choose from, each with their own storied history, personality, and style.
- Customization – Customize your character and begin to pursue a wide variety of combat specialties. Become an elite fighter or a general of an army.

BETA looking good
Reviewed by Joel on December 1st, 2009
First off let me just write that it says that the BETA is not how the final game will be played. Improvements will be made...
MAG is huge, with maps holding up to 256 players, the fighting can get intense but not over crowded as you would expect, with players being divided up into platoons and then squads and with no lag even here in NZ
MAG plays like a cross between battlefield 2, with players being able to take on the role of a squad leader, Platoon leader or Commanding officer. Squad leaders are able to set objectives to the rest of the team mates and if team mates go after the objectives, they gain 2x experience. platoon leaders are able to call in support such as ammo drops, air strikes etc. Commanding Officers, can reduce spawn times for the rest of the company as well as using artillery. bombers and more.
MAG has great mic support, with squad leaders, platoon and the CO being able to communicate on a different channel as well as squad leaders being able to talk to their team mates on a different channel.
Players can pick 1 of 3 different factions, RAVEN which makes use of improved technologies, VALOR is an American type faction and the SVER is terrorist type faction. once picked players can pick a voice and a face for their character and add glasses or head gear. once their character is sorted jump into a battle and level up your character and pick upgrades such as better weapons, quicker reload or steadier aim.
MAG does some have some down falls that will hopefully be improved for release, one is the clear white line that is left after firing your weapon, this makes it extremely easy for enemies to find your sniping spot or hidden shooting place, another is the difficult time attackers have in domination. a huge amount of cross squad team work is required to win. finally the wait time to join a game is a drag although it does vary depending on what game type you want to join.
These downfalls are hopefully to be improved when the game comes close to release. MAG does look good, with a huge number of players fighting it out, no lag, good clan and mic support. If you like Modern Warfare 2 or Battlefield 2 then pay close attention to this game.
