Rumour: Nintendo Australia to take over NZ

Posted by Andrew on Tuesday, 22nd July 2008 @ 1:48PM

Gameplanet has learned that Nintendo Australia is tipped to take over support for Nintendo products in New Zealand.

Nintendo's NZ distributor, SPI, went bust at the start of June, and Australian marketing and distribution company All Interactive Distribution (A.I.D.) has been taking up the slack. As we reported previously, A.I.D. is opening a distribution centre based in New Zealand.

Gameplanet understands that A.I.D. will continue as Nintendo's NZ distributor, but the promotion and support of Nintendo products will be in the hands of Nintendo Australia.

This news means that Nintendo will finally be in charge of promoting their own products here in New Zealand, a long-needed change as we explained in a recent feature article.

We will keep an eye on this developing story and bring you more information as soon as it comes to hand.
